A cheap small laptop is typically considered any laptop under $1000 with display size 12.1 inch or less. In general the smaller you go the more expensive the laptop, therefore there aren't that many cheap new compact laptops on the market. While new laptops under $500 can be found in sizes 15.4 and 14.1 inch, a new 12.1 inch laptop typically fetches at least $800. I took a look at several online laptop stores and found the cheapest small laptops available today.

There are a few popular manufacturers that offer cheap compact laptops under $1000. Everex and HP both produce cheap small laptop computers with 12.1 inch screen sizes and prices under $1000. Asus builds a 7 inch mini laptop that goes for between $299 to $399 but has a hard drive capacity of just 2 to 4 GB. You can occassionally find a new 12.1 inch Toshiba laptop for under $1000 as well. To find cheap small laptop computers it's worth checking out the four online merchants where these low-priced compact laptops can be found.
Newegg 12.1 inch laptops - Newegg often has one or two 12.1 inch laptops priced under $1000. The 7 inch mini Asus laptops with small 2 to 4 GB hard drives have been going for as low as $299 in Newegg's 11.1" & smaller laptop section. Once at the Newegg site you can peruse the listings or narrow your new laptop search via the left-hand navigation menu by discount items, free shipping, top sellers, recertified, price, brand, CPU type, screen size, or hard drive capacity. You can also use the "Sort By" drop-down box to rank the laptops by lowest price, highest price, best rating, most reviews, or best match.

Walmart 12.1 inch laptops - Walmart also frequently has one or two 12.1 inch laptops priced under $1000. Once at the Walmart site you can use the "Sort by" drop-down box to rank the laptops in order according to lowest price, highest price, top sellers, top rated laptops, or newest laptops. You can also select a different screen size or choose to view all Walmart laptop computers at one time.

Best Buy 12.1 inch laptops - Best Buy often has a 12.1 inch laptop under $1000 and also stocks the 7 inch mini Asus laptops. Once on the site find the "Screen Size" sub-heading along the left-hand navigation menu and click on "14 Inches and Under". Then to rank the listings in order starting with the cheapest small laptop click on "Price Low to High". Be sure to read the product description of each laptop to verify the screen size is 12.1 inches or less.
