Laptop Resolution: How to Choose Screen Resolution

The higher the laptop resolution the more information and graphics you can view on the same sized screen. Video and images become more clear and defined as laptop screen resolution increases. Laptop resolution values represent the number of pixels on the screen. The more pixels the greater the resolution and the better overall viewing experience for the user. Just like with today's televisions, widescreen displays are becoming increasingly popular with laptop consumers. Laptops with standard displays are still available and have a 4:3 aspect ratio. Widescreen displays have either a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. Here is a breakdown of the laptop resolution associated with different screen sizes in both standard and widescreen formats:

Standard 4:3 aspect ratio
Super Video Graphics Array(SVGA): Laptop resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. Found on laptops under 14 inches in screen size.
Extended Graphics Array(XGA): Screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Found on laptop computers with screen size 15 inches or less.

Super Extended Graphics Array(SXGA+): Laptop resolution of 1400 x 1050 pixels. Found on laptop computers with screen size 14 inches or greater.

Widescreen 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio
Wide Extended Graphics Array(WXGA): Screen resolution of 1366 x 768 or 1280 x 768 or 1280 x 800 pixels. Found on laptop computers with screen size 15.4 inches or less.
