A cheap lightweight laptop computer is typically considered any laptop under $1000 with a weight of 4.5 lbs or less. Most new laptops on the market weigh more than 5 lbs. In general the lighter or thinner you go the more expensive the laptop. While new laptops under $500 can be found with weights just over 5 lbs, a new laptop weighing under 4.5 lbs typically goes for at least $800. Looking through several online laptop stores I found the cheapest lightweight laptop computers.

There are a few popular manufacturers that offer new lightweight laptop computers under $1000. Everex and HP both produce cheap lightweight laptops with 12.1" screen sizes and prices under $1000. Asus builds an ultralight 7 inch mini laptop that goes for as little as $299 but has a hard drive capacity of just 2 to 4 GB. You can often buy a new lightweight Toshiba or Dell laptop for under $1000 as well. To get the best deal it's worth checking out the four online merchants where these affordable lightweight laptop computers can be found.
Newegg lightweight laptops - Newegg often has one or two lightweight laptop computers priced under $1000. Once at the Newegg site you can peruse the listings or narrow your new laptop search via the left-hand navigation menu by discount items, free shipping, top sellers, recertified, price, brand, CPU type, screen size, or hard drive capacity. You can also use the "Sort By" drop-down box to rank the laptops by lowest price, highest price, best rating, most reviews, or best match. Also of note is that in Newegg's 11.1" and less laptop section the ultralight 7" mini Asus laptops with small 2 to 4 GB hard drives have been going for as low as $299.

Walmart lightweight laptops - Walmart also frequently has one or two lightweight laptop computer deals priced under $1000. Once at the Walmart site you can use the "Sort by" drop-down box to rank the lightweight laptops in order according to lowest price, highest price, top sellers, top rated laptops, or newest laptops. You can also select a different screen size or choose to view all Walmart laptop computers at one time.

Dell XPS lightweight laptop - The Dell XPS M1330 starts off under 4 lbs and is occassionally on sale for under $1000. Lightweight laptop computer deals at TigerDirect - You'll see refurbished laptop listings mixed with the lightweight new laptops. There will usually be one or two cheap lightweight laptop computers priced under $1000. Be sure to verify whether a particular laptop is new or refurbished.
